Revising the constitution

We are revising the club's constitution to ensure it is still appropriate for our association. We would expect to bring it to a special general meeting of the club in the first half of this year after which, if it is accepted by members, it will need to be ratified by the NSW Department of Fair Trading.

Any member who is keen to review the revised constitution and contribute to this process before the special general meeting is invited to contact David Farmer by email on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone on 0415 715 743.

Novice winners at the ABF Summer Festival

Peninsula had great success at the ABF Summer Festival of Bridge in the Novice category.

In particular Marieta Borthwick and Annegrete Kolding had two great triumphs:

  • They partnered with South Coast pair Louise and Michael Brassil to win the Novice Teams event, and
  • They were runners-up in the Novice Swiss Pairs.

Heidi Colenbrander, Susan Jensen, Ray Hurst and Sandie Rooke also had a great event, being runners-up in the Novice Teams event.

Air conditioning guidelines

Now updated with our target climate range! A highly experienced director once confided that the hardest part of the job was the air conditioning decision. We seem to have our fair share of different opinions.

The committee discussed what could be done and concluded that we can never make everyone happy. Not only do different people feel the temperature, humidity and air movement differently, but the temperature and air movement can also vary within the clubhouse (and of course is dependent on which doors and windows are open).

To reduce but not eliminate the perhaps inevitable arguments the committee has adopted the following approach:

Moving electronic files to the club

Many of our volunteers need a way of transferring files to the club's computers for printing or storage at the club. Here are the easiest ways to do this:

  1. Use a USB Flash Drive - Do a virus scan, copy the files to the USB flash drive, take it to the club, insert it in a computer there, and copy or print the file from the USB flash drive.
  2. Email the file to yourself - Then when you go to the club, access your own email via a browser on a club computer and copy or print the file. You will need your email address and password to access your email at the club computer and check that you are NOT storing your password on that computer.
  3. Use a shared Peninsula Bridge Club Google Drive folder - If you also want to store files for use by others, then this is probably a good long term approach. It will allow you to permanently store the relevant files in a folder that others, and you from a club computer, can access. Contact David Farmer for instructions and the login details.

Our Clubhouse

Our Clubhouse is located in the Nelson Heather Centre at 4 Jacksons Road Warriewood near the corner with Pittwater Road and just a few minutes walk from the Warriewood Square Shopping Centre.  Buses, including the new B-Line, that run along Pittwater Rd from Mona Vale and the City stop very close to the Jacksons Road turn-off.  Car parking within the grounds is free and accessed from Boondah Road (first turn right when entering Jacksons Road) but please notice that some spaces are reserved for Meal-on-Wheels volunteers during the day.  Ample street parking is available nearby.

The clubhouse is a well appointed and purpose-built facility with reverse-cycle air conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen. We can comfortably accommodate up to 40 bridge tables with side-tables for drinks, bidding boxes etc. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided free at all sessions but meals are not generally available.

Peninsula in the 2017 McCutcheons

A number of Peninsula players featured in the Australian Bridge Federation 2017 McCutcheon tables. These show the players who accumulated the most masterpoints in their masterpoint category over the year.

Major highlights were Peter Clarke being runner-up in the National category accumulating 106.12MP over 2017 and Hans van Weeren winning the State with one star category with a massive 149.30MP. Congratulations to Hans and Peter.

2017 Wednesday under 10MP Individual

Peggy Fisher won the First Wednesday <10MP year long competition run for the second time over 2017. Neville Wells was the runner-up.

This was an individual competition that allowed eligible players to play with the same or a range of eligible partners over the year - their best percentage scores were added.

This competition continues in 2018 on the first Wednesdays of March through November. The best 7 scores will be counted. This complements the regular Wednesday Rookie section (restricted to those with less than 10MP).

  2. The 2018 year long comps!
