We received this message recently from Ken Hughes of the RFS which we share with you:
I just thought as our major supporter over many years I would let you know what the Northern Beaches RFS brigades have been doing this fire season. I have been a volunteer for 40 years and have never seen anything like the current situation.
As you can imagine we have been very busy throughout NSW over the last few months. We have served from Port Macquarie in the north, south to Narooma and west to Lithgow, Tumut and the Snowy Mountains.
The Club has decided to rename our "Supervised Sessions" to "Practice Play" to better reflect what goes on.
Nothing else has changed and our Practice Play session directors look forward to seeing you there!
The Club subsidises a lesson once a month in the Tuesday & Friday Practice Play sessions. So for 1 voucher (or $7), members can review and refresh with Cath Whiddon – in January the topic is ALL ABOUT NT openings and responses and PLANNING THE PLAY:
- Friday 24 January 9.15 – 11.30
- Tuesday 28 January 2.15 – 4.30
Any questions? Talk with Anne Small 0422 185 733 regarding Monday 6.45pm practice play session (finishing 9pm), Vickie Busteed 0411 65 204 re Tuesday 2.15 – 4.30pm and Terry Rothwell for Fridays 9.15 – 11.30am.
Celebrating a special birthday for one of our members is always a lovely event. It is an important aspect of the wonderful Peninsula Bridge Club community.
If you know of someone who is turning 90 or 95 and they are happy with the idea of a public celebration then the Club is happy to organise it or support you organising it. Please alert the committee ahead of time so that it can be advertised to the appropriate sessions and ensure photos are taken for our TV slideshow and website/newsletter. (You can check if one of our volunteer photographers is available by emailing
Expenses up to $60 for a card, cake and/or flowers will be reimbursed against a claim with receipts. For other special days please be careful to check with one of the office-bearers for approval before raising any expectations.
Chris Dixon is a long term and much loved member at PBC. When his electric wheelchair broke down last week, members quickly rallied to his aid. $7,530 was raised!
This has enabled Chris to buy a brand new electric wheelchair to suit his specific needs. Chris is thrilled that he will be mobile again and wishes to pass on his thanks to everyone who has contributed. He is looking forward to being back at the Club and hopes to be able to make it to some night games as well.
Thank you all for your very generous support!
What a day!! As Sue, our fabulous director said, ‘it was the best Melbourne Cup Day ever at PBC’. Great fun with friends, fabulous hats, fantastic food and wine, sweeps and of course, the reason we all come together as a club, bridge.
Vivien has loaded some pictures which you can see here.
Congratulations to all the fashionistas who made so much of an effort and special congratulations to our best dressed lady Katherine, a visitor to the club and friend of Beverly Schultz.
