ABF Masterpoint Scheme

From the Masterpoints Secretary

I’d like to give you an introduction to masterpoints and the work involved to have them appear in your masterpoint record.

As in other countries the Australian Bridge Federation (ABF) coordinates a masterpoint scheme. Its three main goals are to:

  • Stimulate interest in Contract Bridge,
  • Provide a means of measuring player achievements, and
  • Assist with the financing of the ABF’s national and international commitments.

Ensuring enjoyable bridge for all

As a club we aspire to facilitate enjoyable bridge for all. The diversity of our bridge players can add to this enjoyment - but can also present challenges if behaviours learned elsewhere conflict with common courtesy and the ethical foundations of our game. The club wants to encourage and celebrate positive behaviours and identify and appropriately respond to other behaviours that might threaten our goal of enjoyable bridge for all.

Here is the club's Code of Conduct (maintained in our Playing Rules):

Image of the COVID virus

A member's concern

A member sent me this message and agreed to it being published anonymously:

"I know that there have been almost no cases recently in NSW but I also believe that we should be as COVID-safe as possible.

Bridge players are a very susceptible cohort so I believe that it is up to each of us to do our best (despite low case numbers).

Getting started with StepBridge

If you are looking for online bridge in the same format as a regular club session, with rounds with different opponents, then StepBridge is an excellent platform. I am happy to help any member get started on StepBridge - contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone.

If we can get a number of Peninsula players booking in to the same StepBridge session it might almost seem like a Peninsula game online.

This article guides you on how to access four of the club's key communication channels to promote your event or lesson or other message to our members:

  • The list of Session Announcements sent to directors on Sunday or Monday morning each week
  • The Pianola Results message header generally updated at the same time
  • The Event Notices lists (2) of upcoming special events, and
  • The Club TV Slideshow running before and during each session.

Image showing marketing skills

We need your marketing experience

Our volunteer run club needs to upgrade its marketing, both to support its important bridge education strategy (principally by attracting new beginners) and to enhance its internal and external image during its premises changes over the next few years. We would love to use any marketing experience and skills you (or a family member or friend?) may have gained in the past.

How this might work in practice depends on the experience, skills and willingness of those we are able to attract. There is also a possibility that we might be able to find a marketing student intern that might join the team.

If you (or someone you know) are able to offer us marketing experience and skills, please talk to me (David Farmer 0415 715 743) or to our Secretary, Simon Hunter (0451 130 330). Thank you in advance!
